Tasks and approvals
Path: Parents → Tasks and rewards for catalogues, then Parents → Home for decisions. KinKudos offers two fair ways to award work: a child submits a task for approval, or a parent directly confirms a completed task.
Build the task catalogue
Create shared tasks with a short, observable title, a positive point value, and an optional emoji. Good tasks describe a finishable result: “Put toys in the box” is clearer than “Be tidy”. The catalogue is shared, but each child sees only tasks they are currently eligible to use.
You can edit, deactivate, or remove a catalogue item without changing points already awarded. Deactivate a task when you might bring it back; remove it when it is no longer useful. Historical task entries keep their original title, icon, and point value.
Child-submitted tasks
- A child selects an available task and may attach a photo.
- The task appears in Parents → Home → Pending requests.
- Choose one decision:
| Decision | Result |
|---|---|
| Approve | Awards the shown task points, plus the configured photo bonus when a photo was submitted. |
| Ask to improve | Returns the task to the child. Add an optional explanation; the child can submit it again. No points move yet. |
| Reject | Closes the task without points. You may add an optional explanation visible to the child. |
A child can have one active submission for the same task at a time. A photo is private family evidence: it is resized, stripped of camera metadata, and kept according to the family retention rule.
Completed task: direct parent award
Use the Completed task check-mark icon on a child card when you personally confirm that one or more catalogue tasks are done. Select the tasks and choose Award selected tasks. Points are awarded immediately, so there is no child submission or approval step.
This is helpful for young children, offline chores, or work you observed yourself. Use normal child submission when you want the child to practise reporting completion or to include evidence.
Assign tasks for today
Use the arrow icon on a child card to send selected catalogue tasks for the current day. You can also add one custom task and its point value.
- Assigned tasks are available only until midnight in the server’s local time.
- A child completes each assigned task themselves; points are added immediately.
- A catalogue task is unavailable for assignment when it is already waiting for approval, already assigned today, or already credited today.
- You can optionally block new reward purchases until the assigned tasks are finished.
- You can cancel one unfinished task or all remaining tasks in a batch. An expired or cancelled task does not award points.
Penalties and adjustments
Create penalty templates in Tasks and rewards with a clear title, negative point amount, and optional emoji. On a child card, the penalty icon applies selected templates and can include a shared reason. This creates a permanent negative history entry.
Use Adjust points for a one-off correction or something that is not a defined task, reward, or penalty. Enter a positive or negative amount and a required reason. Avoid changing a balance silently: the history is designed so the family can understand every change.
